Privacy Policy – Discreet - Black Screen Camera

Updated at 2026-10-14

This Privacy Policy explains how the iOS, iPadOS and watchOS app Discreet - Black Screen Camera (the “App”) processes information when you use it.

The App does not provide user accounts. Photos, videos and audio captured through the App are stored exclusively on the user’s device. The Data Controller receives only limited technical and usage data through the service provider Google Firebase, as described in Section 8.

1. Data Controller

The data controller is Marco D’Amelio.

2. Absence of User Accounts

The App does not require, and does not offer, any registration, login or user account. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or any other contact details inside the App.

3. Processing of Media Captured Through the App

  • Photos and videos you capture with the App, including audio recorded during videos, are stored only on your device, inside the App’s private storage (the “Private Gallery”), protected by iOS.
  • They are not uploaded to our servers or to any third party. We have no access to them.
  • A file leaves the Private Gallery only when you decide to save it to your Photo Library or share it using the iOS share sheet. From that moment it is handled by Apple’s Photos app or by the app/service you selected, under their own privacy policies.
  • Because there is no cloud backup, files deleted from the Private Gallery, or lost when the App is uninstalled, cannot be recovered by us.

4. Access to Device Features

The App asks for the following permissions, used only for the purposes described:

Permission What it is used for
Camera To take photos and record videos.
Microphone To record audio together with videos.
Photo Library (add / access) To save photos and videos to your Photo Library when you choose to.
Face ID / Touch ID To lock the Private Gallery. Biometric authentication is handled entirely by iOS: the App never receives or stores your biometric data, it only gets a “success / failure” result.

You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.

5. Data Exchanged with the Paired Apple Watch

When you use the Apple Watch companion, the camera preview, commands (e.g. take photo, start/stop recording) and status information are exchanged directly between your iPhone and your paired Apple Watch through Apple’s WatchConnectivity framework. This data is not sent to our servers.

6. Local Storage of App Settings

Your App preferences (for example capture mode, video quality, gestures, custom screen image, language) are stored locally on your device using iOS storage (such as UserDefaults and the Keychain). They are not sent to us.

7. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions (“PRO”) are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details, your name or your Apple ID. The App only receives from Apple the information needed to know whether PRO features are active (e.g. purchase or subscription status). Apple’s handling of this data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

8. Data Processed by Third-Party Service Providers

The App uses the following services provided by Google (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC):

Firebase Analytics. Used to understand, in aggregate, how the App is used (for example: the App was opened, the purchase screen was shown, a purchase was completed or cancelled, a rating prompt was shown). It processes: App instance identifier, device model, operating system version, App version, language and country/region (derived from device settings and IP address), and usage events. We do not link this data to your identity, and it does not include your photos, videos or their content.

Firebase Crashlytics. Used to detect and fix crashes and errors. When the App crashes or encounters an error, it may send a crash report containing: the technical stack trace, device model, operating system version, App version, a Crashlytics installation identifier, technical log messages (for example, which camera operation failed and internal file paths) and the App settings in use at that moment. Crash reports never contain your photos, videos or audio.

Firebase Remote Config. Used to download configuration parameters that let us enable, disable or tune App features without releasing an update. To do so, the App sends a Firebase installation identifier, App version and basic device information.

Google acts as our data processor. Data may be processed on servers located outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States; in that case transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, to which Google is certified, and/or by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. More information: Firebase Privacy and Security.

Data retention. Analytics data is retained for the period configured in Firebase (at most 14 months); Crashlytics crash reports are retained for 90 days; Remote Config does not retain usage data beyond what is technically needed to deliver the configuration.

This data is not used for advertising purposes, is not sold to third parties and is not used to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to request access to, rectification, erasure or restriction of your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interest, and to data portability (Articles 15–21 GDPR). Because the App has no accounts, we usually cannot identify you from the technical data described above; if you contact us, we may ask for information (for example, the date and time of a crash) that helps us locate the relevant data.

13. User Responsibility

The App is a camera application. The user is solely responsible for using it in compliance with the laws of your country, including laws on privacy, consent and recording of other people. Photos and videos you capture are under your sole control.

14. Amendments to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the App changes or when required by law. The updated version will be published on this page with a new “Updated at” date. For significant changes, we will also inform you inside the App.
